Mair was out shopping with her mother and as she passed a shop she saw the most beautiful shoes in the window.

She stopped and said: look, mummy, aren’t they lovely? they are covered in diamonds. Can I have them? No, said her mother, they aren’t the kind of shoes to wear outside, especially in this weather. Please, please, mummy, she said, I want them. You can’t have everything you want, Mair, said her mother, and now we must go home. Mair didn’t say anything all the way home.
