Last time she had played with Robert they had mixed earth with water and made mud pies and had pretended to cook them in the old cooker in the shed. Mair had liked that game. Perhaps they would play that game again, thought Mair. Mair heard her mother’s voice coming from the house. Put your coat on, it’s cold outside. I’ll go and put on my coat, she said to Robert, and then I’ll come to the shed. I’ll be back from the shop by then, said Robert.
