Bobby and I and what happened.  Chapter 3: Striptease

I had been given a ticket to an event. There were many such events in the seventies. I arrived to find thousands of people in a large loft-like building with back-projections on huge screens. Music came through amplifiers and free food and drink were brought around on trays. Suddenly the lights dimmed and a small stage was illuminated, and a woman came onto the stage and elegantly began to strip, and it was Bobby. This was not vulgar or crude, it was erotic and artistic and everyone was enthralled by her. The final G-string was finally removed to show that she was a transsexual and everyone gasped in astonishment, and then the lights went out. This event could be looked at as just a striptease show, but I knew Bobby and it was a sort of political happening. Bobby by now had been rejected by the lesbians, so she took a more libertarian stance showing transgender politics in the symbolic. Bobby was trying to show that night that the transsexual was woman and feminine and she succeeded. I saw Bobby that night and she did not see me, but I have never forgotten it.    Chapter 4: First Date
